Troubleshoot problems with publishing a movie to a recordable CD

Here are solutions to some common problems with publishing a movie to a recordable CD.

When I try to publish my movie to a CD, Windows Movie Maker says that a CD burner is not detected. How do I fix this?

Try one or more of the following:

Verify that the CD burner is connected properly to your computer and powered on, and that any necessary software drivers for the CD burner are installed. You can check your hardware settings in the Device Manager by doing the following:

1.	Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.	Click Hardware and Sound.
3.	Click Device Manager.

If you have an external CD burner, restart the CD burner.

•

Verify that the CD in the CD burner is a new, blank CD-R or CD-RW disc.

End the imapi.exe process in Windows Task Manager or restart Windows. To stop the imapi.exe process, do the following:

1.	Save any changes to your project, and then close Windows Movie Maker.
2.	To open Windows Task Manager, right-click an empty space on the taskbar, and then click Task Manager.
3.	Click the Processes tab, click the process named imapi.exe, and then click End Process.
4.	Close Windows Task Manager.
5.	Start Windows Movie Maker, open the saved project, and then try publishing your movie to a recordable CD again by using Publish Movie. To view and end the imapi.exe process in Windows Task Manager, you must have the appropriate Administrator privileges. If you are not logged on with Administrator privileges, you cannot end the process. In this case, close Windows Movie Maker, restart Windows, and then try publishing your movie to a recordable CD again.

I don't have the privileges to publish my movie to a CD. How do I get the privileges?

If the Remove CD Burning features setting in Group Policy is set to Enabled by the system administrator, you cannot publish your movie to a CD. The system administrators of some companies or organizations do this to increase security. To view and make changes in Group Policy, the account that you used to log on must have the appropriate Administrator privileges.

To change this setting, contact your system administrator to set the privileges that allow you to copy to a recordable CD, and then try publishing your movie to a recordable CD again.
